The security establishment confirmed on Wednesday that Muhammad Sinwar, the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Yahya's brother, was killed in an IDF attack in Khan Yunis along with Mohammad Shabana, the commander of the Rafah Brigade, and about 10 other terrorists, including company commanders in the terror organization.

Sinwar, an arch-terrorist, began his career in the first intifada and since the early 1990s has been involved in extensive terrorist activity against Israel, including planning attacks, launching rockets, and transferring funding for the production of weapons.

Sinwar was influenced at an early age by his older brother Yahya, and was one of the first to join the terrorist organization's military wing. Over the years, the young Sinwar rose through the ranks of command and over time became a prominent member of the organization, like his brother, and became close to Muhammad Deif and Marwan Issa.

Unlike his brother, Muhammad Sinwar chose to follow in the footsteps of Muhammad Deif and avoid exposure as much as possible, to the point that most Gazans did not even know his facial features. One of the reasons for this is, of course, the fear of an Israeli assassination, from which he has survived several times in the past.

Muhammad Sinwar is considered one of the central figures in the kidnapping of soldier Gilad Shalit in 2006, and was one of the direct responsible for holding him captive for five years in Khan Yunis. According to Israeli security officials and former senior officials in the Israel Prison Service, Sinwar played a key role in both planning the abduction and the logistics of keeping Shalit in the hands of Hamas, until his release in 2011.

In addition, Muhammad Sinwar is considered one of the main architects of October 7, 2023, alongside his brother Yahya Sinwar and the commander of the military wing at the time, Muhammad Deif. According to intelligence assessments, he was a senior partner in the planning and organization, and took a direct part in the coordination, preparation, and execution of some of the atrocities committed in the massacre.

It is believed that Izzadin Haddad, who is considered a senior terrorist, is expected to be appointed head of Hamas' military wing in the Gaza Strip. The defense establishment believes that Hamas terrorists have already begun to act against it and organize under its leadership.
