Command Structure Decimated in Rafah Operation

Israeli defense forces confirmed a significant operational success in the southern Gaza area, announcing that the entire chain of command of Hamas’s East Rafah Battalion was eliminated earlier this week. The high-value targets were neutralized as they emerged from an underground tunnel network in eastern Rafah, an area now secured and systematically cleared by troops since the ceasefire agreement took effect.

The decisive action, executed by ground forces in coordination with the Israeli Air Force, was the result of extensive intelligence gathering, precise questioning, and guidance provided by the security agency. The operation saw the elimination of four terrorists attempting to flee the extensive underground terror infrastructure known to exist in the sector.

The Architects of Terror Eliminated

Following a detailed intelligence analysis, the identities of the four eliminated terrorists were confirmed, revealing that they comprised the key leadership of the East Rafah Battalion:

  • Muhammad Jawad Muhammad al-Bawab: The Commander of Hamas’s Eastern Rafah Battalion. He was a primary architect who oversaw the planning and execution of the battalion’s infiltration into communities across the southern Negev during the horrific October 7 massacre. Throughout the ongoing war, he continued to direct terror attacks specifically targeting Israeli defense forces.
  • Ismail Kanaan Abd al-Hay Abu Labdeh: The Deputy Commander of Hamas’s Eastern Rafah Battalion. He was also closely involved in the planning of the October 7 massacre and was known as the mastermind behind the humiliating ceremonies staged during hostage releases.
  • Tawfiq Khaled Tawfiq Salem: A Commander of a regional platoon within the battalion, confirming the elimination of a critical tactical leader.
  • Abdullah Azi Ahmed Hamad: A low-level terrorist who served as a security guard within the battalion commander’s inner circle. His identity drew particular attention as he was the son of Ghazi Hamad, a senior member of the Hamas Political Bureau, demonstrating that the scope of the operation extended into the highest echelons of the terror group's network.

Securing the Battlefield

The elimination of the four commanders is part of a larger, ongoing effort to dismantle the terror infrastructure, both above and below ground, in the Rafah area. This sector remains a critical target due to the belief that dozens of Hamas fighters are still trapped in the expansive tunnel complexes.

To date, Israeli defense forces and the security agency have eliminated more than 40 terrorists in the vicinity of the underground terror infrastructure in eastern Rafah alone. This consistent and precise activity is a vital component of securing the area and preventing future attacks against both troops and Israeli communities, while simultaneously stripping Hamas of its critical leadership and operational capacity. The successful neutralization of the entire East Rafah Battalion’s top command represents a major operational and intelligence achievement in dismantling the terror group's entrenched structure.
