International law: Israel establishes legal team to defend soldiers abroad

In the past year, Israel has been forced to confront an almost unfamiliar front - the legal front. Due to the prolonged war on multiple fronts and the many documented incidents that emerged from them, anti-Israeli organizations around the world have begun suing IDF soldiers, as well as commanders and government ministers, for alleged violations of international law and human rights.

This evening (Thursday) it was reported that due to serious concerns about the arrest of soldiers abroad, the government will establish a new team with a budget of tens of millions to protect the fighters. The team will include representatives from Shin Bet, Mossad, the National Security Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Justice, and others, according to Channel 13 News.

According to Yuval Segev's report, complaints have been filed against Israeli soldiers in more than 40 countries, with Israel lacking relevant professionals in many of these countries who could legally defend the soldiers.

Now, ahead of the establishment of the dedicated team, the inter-ministerial legal team is requesting a budget increase of approximately 20 million shekels, with costs expected to rise even further.

According to the report, in the first months of 2025, the costs of assisting Israeli soldiers were higher than for the entire year of 2024. This is evidence of the growing struggle by anti-Israeli organizations around the world.
