Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei reportedly in "poor mental state," still possible Israeli target

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is reportedly in a "poor mental state" due to the elimination of most of his senior government colleagues, according to a report by Iran International.

Khamenei was evacuated to a secure location following the launching of Operation Rising Lion, during which the IDF eliminated many senior Iranian military leaders. According to reports, Israel had an operational window to eliminate him during the first day, but decided to give him one more chance to agree to dismantling the country's nuclear weapons program.

When asked on the matter during a press conference today (Monday), IDF Spokesperson Effi Defrin declined to comment on whether or not Khamenei is presently a target of Israel's, though Prime Minister Netanyahu has made it clear he does not consider Khamenei's death to be an escalation and would in fact deescalate tensions.
