The Haredi community of Givat Zeev, near Jerusalem, was devastated to learn about the sudden and unexpected passing of Rabbi David Gorlik, a beloved and widely respected volunteer known throughout the neighborhood for his tireless acts of kindness. Gorlik, a senior emergency medical volunteer with Magen David Adom, was found in his home without signs of life. He was only thirty years old.
Gorlik had served for years as a senior paramedic in the neighborhood's emergency response network, working day and night with extraordinary devotion, uncompromising professionalism and a warmth that touched everyone he encountered. Friends describe a man whose entire being centered on love of his fellow Jews, on acts of kindness performed both quietly and openly, and on a constant pursuit of the privilege of saving lives and helping residents of the neighborhood at any hour of the day or night.
Friends who are still struggling to accept the painful news said through tears that David was always the first to respond to any call, always with a smile, always carrying a calm that gave his patients a sense of security. It is difficult to grasp, they said, that someone who saved so many lives is no longer among us, calling it a heavy blow for the entire community.
The painful news has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, leaving family members, his many friends and hundreds of fellow medical volunteers across the city devastated as they struggle to process the sudden loss of a young man so full of energy and purpose.
Details of the funeral procession are expected to be announced shortly.
May his memory be a blessing.
