The Israel Meteorological Service, together with the Interior Ministry's coastal management division and the Environmental Protection Ministry, issues daily beach safety alerts throughout August. These warnings become particularly critical in the days before schools reopen in early September.

Swimmers must exit the water immediately when lifeguards announce the end of daily supervision, regardless of swimming ability or the presence of experienced swimmers nearby. Staying beyond official hours eliminates professional rescue coverage.

Those riding waves toward shore should watch for double waves that can trap swimmers.

If caught in a rip current or whirlpool, the most important response is avoiding panic and keeping one's head above water. Rather than fighting the current directly, swimmers should look immediately for something to grab: A flag pole, rope, buoy or another person. After several rotations in the current while maintaining breathing and not attempting to swim out, swimmers should pull forcefully away from the flow. If this method fails, conserving energy becomes paramount: move slowly, signal for help and cry out loud. Exhausting oneself quickly can lead to unconsciousness and drowning.
