The northern Galilee is in mourning following the tragic death of 27-year-old Nuriel Dubin, who was killed by a Hezbollah rocket barrage near the Machaneyim Junction on Tuesday evening. Nuriel, a resident of Moshav Margaliot and originally from Bnei Yehuda in the Golan Heights, was a dedicated student of education at Tel Hai University and had spent her career working as a youth counselor and kindergarten therapist. Her death is particularly poignant as her family revealed she was engaged to be married this coming September, a future that was instantly shattered by the indiscriminate fire from Lebanese territory.

Following Instructions to the End

The details of the incident highlight the terrifying reality of life under fire in northern Israel. Nuriel was driving with a friend when the sirens began to wail, signaling a barrage of approximately 30 rockets and several drones launched by Hezbollah. Following the safety protocols she had learned as a former combat reservist, she pulled her vehicle to the side of the road and lay down in a ditch to protect herself. Tragically, a large piece of shrapnel from a rocket that landed nearby struck her, inflicting a fatal multi-system injury. Her friend, who was with her, sustained only light injuries, but Nuriel was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders from Magen David Adom.

The Golan Regional Council issued a statement hugging the family, including her parents, Yoram and Shoshana, and her siblings, Aviram and Sapir. Nuriel’s mother, Shoshana, is a well-known first-grade teacher in the region, and the loss has sent shockwaves through the local education system where Nuriel herself worked. MDA Director-General Eli Bin noted that the shrapnel was unusually large, highlighting the lethal nature of the weaponry being used against civilian centers. As the IDF continues to scan the area for further casualties, the story of Nuriel Dubin stands as a grim testament to a young life full of promise and service that was taken in an instant by the ongoing war.
