13 year old Itai Shamai's mother allegedly murdered him on Shavuot Eve, then she killed herself

Itai Shamai, 13, from Modi'in, is the boy who was allegedly murdered on Sunday by his mother, who subsequently died by suicide. He will be laid to rest today (Wednesday) in Givat Shaul.

Firefighters found the two unconscious in one of the rooms of the house, which had been set on fire. They were rescued without signs of life, and their deaths were pronounced at the scene by medical personnel.

Police sealed off the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. An initial examination revealed that the apartment was locked and all ventilation openings were closed. The mother was found with stab wounds, while the boy reportedly showed no signs of violence. The mother was not known to social services or police, and there were no known disputes between the parents.

Volunteers from ZAKA Modi'in's Unit 360, Meir Ozari and Naftali Ben-Shaya, said: "This is not a scene you encounter every day. A mother and her young son found lifeless in a burned apartment: it's a sight that chills the heart. This is a very difficult event for all emergency teams involved."
