Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Prime Minister, is demanding NIS 5 million in compensation from Eyal Giller and warning of a lawsuit for no less than NIS 10 million if the demand is not met. In a response letter sent Thursday and addressed to Giller's attorneys, her lawyer Uriel Nizri rejects the claims raised following her Channel 14 interview regarding the trash bin arson affair.
"My client will not apologize, will not remove statements, and will not pay even a single worn shekel to your client," Nizri wrote. According to him, Netanyahu will use all legal means at her disposal to defend her rights and stop what he describes as an attempt to intimidate her.
The letter was written in response to an approach from Giller's representatives on September 8. Nizri argues that Netanyahu's statements in the interview did not constitute defamation, and that she did not present new facts but rather expressed her opinion on the events and the sense of threat she experienced.
"My client's words reflected pure factual truth according to her position and opinion, and the indictment does not negate this," the letter states. The attorney further claimed that when Netanyahu described a threat to her life and the lives of those close to her, she was describing a dangerous reality imposed upon her.
Alongside rejecting the claims, Nizri raises sharp accusations against Giller and others in the letter. According to him, they acted in a planned and organized manner to create a "ring of fire around the Prime Minister's residence," and subsequently worked to obstruct the police investigation and conceal evidence. He also claims the actions led to a vehicle fire and nearly caused a residential building to burn with its occupants inside. These are allegations raised in the letter on behalf of Netanyahu.
