Education Minister Yoav Kisch will deliver a special statement to the media tonight (Monday) at 19:30 from Rambam Hospital in Haifa, following the deadly incident at Ramim Ridge in which a yeshiva high school student was killed and 19 others were injured when unexploded ordnance detonated.

According to Channel 13 reporter Yaron Avraham, the Education Minister is expected to announce during the statement a sweeping cancellation of all school trips in the northern region, effective tomorrow morning.

The minister's statement comes against the backdrop of the severe tragedy that occurred earlier today in the North. Students and teachers from the Ort Ma'alot yeshiva high school were on a trip in the Ramim Ridge area of the Upper Galilee. According to a preliminary investigation and an IDF field inquiry, one of the students placed an ordnance item in his backpack, apparently a Hezbollah cluster bomblet that had remained in the area.

Later, while the group was near the road, the item exploded inside the backpack. The deadly blast killed a 16-year-old student and wounded 19 others in varying degrees of severity. The injured were evacuated by helicopters and ambulances to hospitals in the North, including Rambam, Ziv and Poriya. The IDF and police continue to investigate the circumstances and are sweeping the area for additional unexploded ordnance.
