The IDF has released an internal Hamas document showing the terror group planned to plant explosives around displaced-persons camps in the Gaza Strip, knowing the operation would endanger the civilians sheltering there.
The document, written in April 2024 and now disclosed for the first time, lays out a plan by Hamas's engineering division to hide bombs near the camps and detonate them as IDF forces closed in, using the civilian population as a shield and creating panic to cover the escape of its operatives.
According to the captured plan, Hamas proposed planting additional explosives along routes and pathways used by Gaza residents, in an attempt to slow the IDF's advance. The document also suggested firing noise bombs inside the camps to create chaos and allow Hamas terrorists hiding in the area to flee.
The IDF said the document is "further proof that Hamas is willing to endanger the lives of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip in order to advance its terror activity."
The plan was part of Hamas's preparations to protect its leadership and operatives and extract them from areas where the IDF was expected to operate, the military said.
