Eisenkot rules out sitting under Netanyahu

Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot makes unequivocal pledge one week before elections, vowing to resign within an hour if he joins a Netanyahu-led government

Yashar! party leader Gadi Eisenkot told Radio 103FM on Wednesday: "I commit unequivocally that I will not sit under Netanyahu even in rotation --- if that happens, record this clip and I will resign an hour after."

The statement comes after a number of senior figures and journalists have suggested that a scenario in which Netanyahu and Eisenkot sit together is logical. Last week, journalist Michael Hauser Tov addressed the possibility of a joint government between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Gadi Eisenkot after the elections. In a post on X, he estimated that despite Eisenkot's categorical denials, the political picture may shift depending on the election results.

"Let's put it this way, the chance that Liberman will be prime minister is higher than the chance that Eisenkot will sit with Netanyahu," Hauser Tov wrote, distinguishing between the two political possibilities.

Despite these words, Hauser Tov clarified that in his assessment, the possibility of cooperation between Eisenkot and Netanyahu is not necessarily off the table, and that the result at the ballot box may be significant.

"But I believe that even this will work itself out the day after the elections, given that the Eisenkot bloc will be in the area of 55 and not 50," he wrote.
