Jewish residents in Lod woke this morning to find stickers plastered on their cars bearing a confrontational message in Hebrew and Arabic alongside the logo of the Joint List party. The images, circulated on social media, triggered angry reactions and brought the ongoing tensions in the mixed city back into focus.
The round sticker, in blue and white, carried the Hebrew text "despite your anger and your fury" alongside the Arabic version and the Joint List symbol. One resident who found the sticker on his vehicle posted a photo with the sarcastic caption: "What a joy this is, this coexistence in Lod."
Another resident reported that stickers were placed on multiple cars on his street, against a backdrop of recurring vandalism including smashed headlights and burned vehicles. According to him, the message on the stickers provokes anger, especially given the complex reality residents face in the city.
The incident brings back memories of the Guardian of the Walls events in May 2021, when severe riots and violent clashes between Jews and Arabs erupted in Lod. Vehicles were set ablaze, synagogues were torched, and heavy property damage was inflicted. Following the unrest, a state of emergency was declared in the city, and large security forces were deployed in an attempt to restore order to the streets.
For many Jewish residents, the events of those days remain a painful memory of fear and insecurity. Now, the appearance of stickers with a political message on vehicles in the city has reignited those concerns.
