Another day, another statement

Iran Says It Received US Position, is Reviewing It

The statement comes amid renewed diplomatic activity after US President Donald Trump said he had delayed a planned attack on Iran at the request of Gulf leaders, who urged him to give negotiations more time.

Iran has received the latest US position on efforts to end the war and is reviewing it, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Wednesday, according to the state-linked Nour News agency.

“We have received US views and are reviewing them,” Baghaei was quoted as saying.

He said Pakistan continues to mediate the exchange of messages between Tehran and Washington, and that several rounds of communication have taken place based on Iran’s original 14-point framework.

The statement comes amid renewed diplomatic activity after US President Donald Trump said he had delayed a planned attack on Iran at the request of Gulf leaders, who urged him to give negotiations more time.

Trump has said there is a “very good chance” of reaching an agreement that would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, but has also warned that the US military remains ready for a large-scale assault if talks fail.

Iran’s latest proposal reportedly demands an end to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, the withdrawal of US forces from areas near Iran, reparations for war damage, the release of frozen Iranian funds, the lifting of sanctions and an end to the US naval blockade.

A Pakistani source told Reuters earlier this week that time was running short, saying both sides “keep changing their goalposts.”

The talks remain focused on whether the sides can reach an agreement that would limit Iran’s nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively controlled during the war. The closure has disrupted global energy flows and intensified pressure on Washington to reach a deal.
