The Attack Timeline and Scale

The horrifying terror attack in Sydney, which targeted hundreds of attendees at a public Hanukkah celebration, has been attributed to two terrorists, a father and son. According to the Australian Police Commissioner, the father, age 50, was killed by police during the incident, while the 24-year-old son remains hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities have confirmed they are not seeking any additional perpetrators.

The shooting began shortly after 6:30 PM, with initial reports suggesting the sounds were merely firecrackers. The first call to Sydney Police was made at 6:46 PM, followed one minute later by a call to city emergency services, who stated they arrived at the scene within five minutes. However, the terrorists fired freely for over ten minutes before being neutralized.

The scale of the massacre was immense. More than 50 shots were fired from a bridge towards the area where nearly a thousand people were gathered, including approximately 400 people specifically attending the Chabad house candle-lighting event. This shocking length of time, with the free reign given to the two terrorists, allowed them to inflict their devastating damage on the innocent crowd.

Licensed Weapons and Familial Terror

The investigation has uncovered disturbing details about the terrorists. The 50-year-old father, who was shot dead by police, was found to possess six firearms, all of which were legally licensed to him. The use of legally acquired weapons by these despicable terrorists to murder innocent lives, simply because they were Jewish, raises serious questions about gun control and security vetting processes in Australia.

The familial aspect of the terror attack, involving a father and son, is a deeply unsettling finding. The pair unleashed a coordinated and cold-blooded assault on the Jewish community during a sacred holiday celebration, turning a moment of light into a profound tragedy.

The investigation is now focused on understanding the radicalization process that led this father and son to commit such an extreme act of antisemitic war and violence, ensuring that no further individuals are connected to their terrorist plot.
