Spanish Prime Minister Accuses Israel of Violating International Law During Beijing Visit

Relations between Jerusalem and Madrid reach a new low as Spain is barred from the CMCC and diplomatic protests intensify

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez issued a sharp critique of Israel during a state visit to Beijing, claiming that international law is being fundamentally undermined by the Jewish state.

Addressing reporters, Sánchez asserted that international legal standards are being violated by a single country: Israel. He further suggested that nations speaking out against governments that breach international law are being subjected to threats by those same states.

The Spanish leader’s remarks come just four days after a significant diplomatic downgrade by Jerusalem. Israeli officials recently announced that Spain would no longer be permitted to participate in the Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) located in Kiryat Gat. The facility serves as a vital hub for coordinating humanitarian efforts and security protocols.

New Flotilla Departs

Tensions have continued to escalate on multiple fronts. Reports from Spain indicate that another pro-Palestinian flotilla has departed from Spanish shores with the intent of reaching the Gaza Strip. The move is viewed by Israeli authorities as a provocative challenge to the existing maritime blockade.

Incitement and Reprimand

In a separate development, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned a senior European diplomatic official for a formal reprimand. The summons follows the circulation of a disturbing video from Spain which depicts an effigy of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu being destroyed by gunfire and explosions. Israeli diplomats characterized the footage as a severe incitement to violence that requires immediate international condemnation.
