President Donald J. Trump delivered a blistering response Tuesday to the sudden resignation of National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, dismissing the former Green Beret and CIA officer as “weak on security” and declaring it was “a good thing he’s out.”Kent submitted his resignation earlier in the day, publicly stating he could not “in good conscience” support ongoing U.S. military action against Iran. In his letter, Kent claimed Iran posed “no imminent threat” to America and accused the administration of being influenced by Israeli pressure and “misinformation” from its American lobby.

Trump, speaking during a White House press availability, did not hold back:“When I read his statement I realised it’s a good thing he’s out.”

The President then zeroed in on the core disagreement: “If I didn’t terminate Obama’s nuclear deal you would have had Nuclear 4 years ago… so when somebody is working with us that says Iran is not a threat, they aren’t very smart.”

Trump continued:“Every country realised Iran was a threat, the question was whether or not they wanted to do something about it.”

The remarks come amid intensifying U.S. and allied operations targeting Iran’s basllsitic missiles, nuclear program and terror proxies. Trump has repeatedly framed the campaign as a necessary preemptive strike, comparing it to catching cancer early rather than waiting until it becomes terminal.

A senior administration official, speaking on background, said Kent’s departure marks the first major fracture in Trump’s second-term national security team but explained that the President “will not tolerate weakness or hesitation when America’s survival is on the line.”Kent, a two-time Republican congressional candidate from Washington state and longtime Trump ally, had been confirmed to the NCTC post just weeks ago.

His resignation letter quickly circulated on social media, drawing praise from isolationist voices and sharp criticism from pro-Israel conservatives who view Iran’s nuclear ambitions as an existential danger.

Trump’s sharp public rebuke signals zero tolerance for dissent on the Iran file. With U.S. strikes continuing and diplomatic fallout mounting, the President made clear: those who downplay the threat are simply not up to the job.

The White House says Kent’s position has already been filled on an acting basis, and more personnel announcements are expected in the coming days.
