Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to undergo a "routine medical examination" today, as announced by his office. In preparation, the Israeli cabinet has appointed Justice Minister Yariv Levin as acting prime minister starting at 6:00 AM, covering all responsibilities during Netanyahu's absence.

The Prime Minister's Office has not provided specific details about the nature of the medical procedure, referring to it only as routine. Notably, even cabinet ministers have not been briefed on the specifics of the examination.

This medical check-up follows a series of health-related events for Netanyahu. In late December 2024, he underwent successful prostate surgery after a urinary tract infection was linked to a benign enlargement of the prostate. Earlier in 2023, he had a pacemaker implanted following a heart rhythm issue and was hospitalized for dehydration.

As of now, there is no official statement on the expected duration of Netanyahu's absence or further details regarding his health status.
