The New York Police Department (NYPD) is responding to a bomb threat at Barnard College's Milstein Center, following an earlier disruption on campus. According to the NYPD, the threat was made around 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, prompting authorities to evacuate the building and advise everyone to stay clear of the area.

The bomb threat comes just hours after a group of masked protestors entered the Milstein Center, disrupting academic activities and dining hall operations. Barnard College condemned the interruption, emphasizing its commitment to providing a safe learning environment for all students. The college stated that disruptions such as these undermine the mission of higher education.

"Barnard is committed to fostering a safe environment where all students can learn and all members of our community are respected," the college said in a statement. "Disruptions to our academic mission cannot be tolerated."

Columbia University, which is affiliated with Barnard College, issued a statement condemning the disruption and offering support to the Barnard community. “We are in touch with Barnard’s leadership and security team as they address the situation,” Columbia’s statement read. “The disruption of academic activities is not acceptable, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.”

The Milstein Center, which houses classrooms and dining facilities, was evacuated shortly after the bomb threat was received. NYPD has warned that anyone refusing to leave the area could face arrest.

At this time, Barnard College has reported that normal campus operations have resumed following the initial disruption, although the bomb threat is still under investigation by authorities.
