iPhone charger recall: explosion risk

Bakshi Zohar calls for immediate halt to use of TREQA charger imported from China • Standards Institute tests reveal electrocution and fire hazard | Product details inside

RECALL: iPhone Charger Sold in Israel May Explode

Bakshi Zohar Ltd has issued an urgent product recall in coordination with the Standards Commissioner at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, calling on anyone in possession of a TREQA-brand iPhone charger to stop using it immediately. The product in question is a 20W charger, model CH-9025, barcode 6972047909247, manufactured in China.

The recall was published after tests conducted on behalf of the Standards Commissioner by the Standards Institute of Israel uncovered serious safety defects in the product. According to the findings, the charger does not meet the requirements of Israeli Standard SI 62368 Part 1, which governs audio/visual equipment, information technology equipment and telecommunications equipment.

Three dangerous defects identified

Standards Institute testing identified three significant safety defects in the charger. The most severe is that the charger's casing and internal components are not adequately resistant to heat and fire. During normal operation or in the event of a malfunction, the plastic may soften or melt, causing a short circuit, ignition, and risk of electrocution.

In addition, defects were found in the charger's construction, including the casing and plug, that could cause electrocution. The third defect discovered is that the product failed dielectric strength testing, meaning its electrical insulation is inadequate.

This represents a real danger to anyone who has this product in their home. A charger that does not meet safety standards may ignite during routine charging, lead to a house fire, or cause its user to be electrocuted.

Anyone in possession of this charger is asked to stop using it immediately and contact Bakshi Zohar by email at bakshioz91@gmail.com or by phone at 04-6596385.
