Security Alert

US tankers to Europe as Iran war looms

Security cabinet meets tonight on Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Iran as reports emerge of American refueling aircraft deploying to European bases — and Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia push the region closer to all-out conflict

Israel's security cabinet is scheduled to meet tonight (Sunday) to assess the situation across four active fronts: the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. The session comes against a backdrop of sustained regional tension and an escalating exchange of blows between Saudi Arabia and the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen.

The latest Houthi strike on Saudi Arabia, which killed at least 12 people and wounded hundreds, has intensified fears across the Middle East. Analysts say the possibility of a full regional explosion has become more realistic than ever.

According to reports circulating today on social media and in various news outlets, the US Air Force is transferring a large number of aerial refueling tankers from bases in the United States to bases in Europe. The reports claim that nearly 20 aircraft arrived within three days, and link the move to preparations for a renewed strike campaign against Iran. However, no independent and reliable confirmation of the aircraft numbers or timeline has been found at this stage.

Even if the deployment proves accurate, it does not confirm that an American decision to strike has been made. Military readiness can serve as a tool of diplomatic pressure and does not necessarily indicate intent to launch an operation.

In the background stand the shifting messages from US President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of renewed confrontation with Tehran. As reported by the Al Arabiya network, US military forces received orders to be ready for "D-Day" and prepared at full strength to launch a large-scale military offensive against Iran. According to an American military source, on October 4 the forces remained on peak alert until midnight, waiting in readiness until the early morning hours of Monday for the final green light to open fire.

Trump seriously considered launching the severe military blow that very night, but made a dramatic decision to postpone the strike at the last moment and grant a final window of several weeks for diplomacy. Alongside the choking economic and financial pressure being applied to the regime in Tehran, the greatest pressure on Iranian decision-makers comes from the threatening American military readiness.

Israel's security establishment is particularly concerned about a scenario in which a miscalculation of one side's intentions leads to broad escalation, even without a prior decision to open full-scale war. The alert level is rising also in light of uncertainty surrounding the American administration's policy and the possible ramifications for the region.

The escalation in the Persian Gulf continues to develop. At least 12 people were killed and 310 others wounded in a massive attack carried out by the Houthi rebels from Yemen against the international airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that an American citizen was among those killed in the incident. Rubio issued a sharp condemnation of the attack, saying it "demonstrates a blatant disregard for the lives of innocent civilians."

Parallel to the airport attack, the Saudi-led military coalition announced that the kingdom's air defense systems detected and successfully intercepted an additional ballistic missile launched by the Houthis from Yemen toward the Al-Kharj province in Saudi Arabia.

This afternoon (Sunday), another Houthi attack was reported, which also caused casualties in the kingdom.

According to reports, the British Navy stated that Tehran has intensified attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz area — at least 10 vessels were hit during the past week. The attacks are being carried out using missiles and drones.

Bloomberg news agency reported that Iran has succeeded in rebuilding its missile and drone manufacturing facilities, despite months of American and Israeli strikes. The report stands in direct contradiction to claims by the Trump administration that Iran's military-industrial infrastructure has been completely destroyed. According to the report, Western sources estimate that Tehran remains well-equipped with ballistic missiles and anti-ship weapons, and that it is capable of producing new missiles rapidly.

Today, an Iranian source claimed that Israel and the US have decided to launch an attack against Iran, an assertion that illustrates the possibility that Iran may decide to act first. At this stage, it appears that a sudden preemptive strike by Iran is becoming a more plausible scenario with each passing day.
