The United States explored with IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir whether Israel could strike the Houthis in Yemen, following the escalation with Saudi Arabia and the deadly attack on Riyadh's airport, the Wnet news site reported Sunday evening.

Twelve people were killed in the Houthi missile barrage on the Saudi capital. According to the report, the Americans are seeking to avoid direct involvement in the crisis between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, in part because of the US midterm elections next month.

Zamir responded with a warning that Israeli action could widen the confrontation, draw a response from Iran, and even lead to a postponement of Israel's elections, scheduled for 27 October.

In a conversation with the commander of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, the possibility of a future strike on Iran was also discussed, though no concrete plans for action in the near term were presented.

In the background, security coordination between the IDF and the US military continues, and Military Intelligence is still building a target bank inside Iran that includes missile systems, fire arrays, and infrastructure tied to the nuclear programme.
