The New York Knicks are one win away from their first NBA championship since 1973 after completing a dramatic comeback against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the Finals.
New York erased a 29-point deficit and defeated San Antonio in one of the biggest comebacks in Finals history, taking a 3-1 series lead and moving to the brink of a historic championship.
For much of the night, the Spurs appeared to be in full control. San Antonio led 76-49 at halftime and still held a 20-point advantage during the fourth quarter, putting the Knicks in danger of seeing the series tied.
But New York slowly took over in the closing minutes, led by Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby.
Brunson delivered another major performance, finishing with 36 points and seven assists while driving the Knicks’ comeback. Anunoby added 33 points and made the biggest play of the night in the final seconds.
With 1.2 seconds left, after a missed shot by Brunson, Anunoby crashed the glass, grabbed the offensive rebound and scored the go-ahead tip-in. The basket gave New York the dramatic win and sent the home crowd into celebration.
San Antonio had several chances to stop the collapse, but the Spurs struggled late after controlling most of the game. Victor Wembanyama started strongly and finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds, but had a limited impact in the final minutes.
Dylan Harper added 21 points for the Spurs, while Devin Vassell and De’Aaron Fox each scored 18. Fox was involved in one of the key late-game moments, missing a chance to secure the win for San Antonio before the sequence that led to Anunoby’s decisive basket.
The victory gives the Knicks a 3-1 lead in the Finals, leaving them just one win away from ending a championship drought of more than five decades.
Game 5 will be played in Texas, where the Spurs will try to extend the series and keep their title hopes alive. For the Knicks, the next game offers a chance to complete one of the most memorable championship runs in franchise history and bring the NBA title back to New York for the first time since 1973.
