Gunshots Rock Quiet Kibbutz, 2 Bodies Found
Elderly Couple Found Dead in Jordan Valley Kibbutz; Police Investigate Murder-Suicide
A man and woman in their 60s were found dead in a suspected murder-suicide at Ashdot Yaakov Kibbutz in Israel’s Jordan Valley, following reports of gunshots. Police are investigating the criminal circumstances, leaving the close-knit community in shock.

On the evening of Sunday, May 25, a man and a woman, both approximately 60 years old, were discovered lifeless in their home at the Ashdot Yaakov Kibbutz in the Jordan Valley Regional Council, in what Israeli police suspect may be a murder-suicide, according to Ynet. The grim discovery followed reports of gunshots heard in the area, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency services. Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics arrived at the scene but could only confirm the deaths of the two individuals, who were found unconscious, without a pulse, and showing no signs of breathing.
Maor Sarga, an MDA motorcycle unit paramedic, recounted the scene: “We arrived quickly and saw a man and a woman in their 60s lying unconscious, without a pulse or breath. There was nothing left for us to do but declare their deaths at the scene.” Police have launched a criminal investigation, stating, “The background is criminal, and the circumstances are under examination.” Preliminary findings suggest the incident may involve a homicide followed by suicide, though no official motive or relationship between the victims has been disclosed. Forensic teams are examining the scene for evidence, including the suspected firearm involved, to clarify the sequence of events.
The incident has shaken the tight-knit community of Ashdot Yaakov, a kibbutz known for its agricultural heritage and serene location near the Jordan River. Local residents expressed shock, with one neighbour telling The Jerusalem Post, “This is a quiet place; we never imagined something like this could happen here.” The police are conducting background checks on the deceased to explore potential motives, such as domestic issues or personal disputes, while also appealing for witnesses who may have heard the gunshots or noticed unusual activity.
This tragedy follows a pattern of recent violent incidents in Israel. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Jordan Valley police to assist in piecing together the circumstances of this devastating event.
