Officers searched the home without success, but a quick check of a garden bed in the yard revealed the assault rifle hidden beneath layers of soil.

Police Unearth Kalashnikov Rifle Buried in Nazareth Garden

A targeted operation by Israel's Northern District Police against illegal weapons possession led to the discovery of a Kalashnikov assault rifle buried in the yard of a home in Nazareth.

Officers raided the residence of a 23-year-old Nazareth resident suspected of possessing combat weapons. The police initially conducted a thorough search inside the house but found nothing. After completing the indoor search, they turned their attention to the outdoor yard area.

Suspicion focused on a garden bed on the property, and officers began digging into the soil. Documentation from the operation shows police using a metal detector rod during the search, which ultimately led them to uncover the weapon concealed underground.

The rifle had been wrapped in aluminum foil, apparently in an attempt to make detection more difficult. Despite this protective layer, the combination of detection equipment and physical excavation by officers eventually revealed the hidden weapon.

The Kalashnikov was seized and transferred for examination. The suspect was arrested and taken for questioning at the offices of the Valleys District Central Unit.

This morning, based on the findings of the investigation, police are expected to request that the court extend the suspect's detention.
