"If you don't pay, you'll lose one, two, three, and you'll still pay, instead of a million, two million." That's how three northern residents threatened a victim caught in a severe extortion scheme following a bureaucratic error in a land plot registration. Following an investigation by Northern District police, an indictment is expected to be filed against the three for demanding 1 million shekels in protection money through threats.
About a month ago, Israel Police received a report from a man claiming his life and his family's lives were being threatened over a bureaucratic matter concerning a land plot in the village of Iksal. Northern District officers arrived at the scene and opened an investigation into the circumstances.
The investigation revealed that an error had been made in registering a land plot that the victim had won, which was recorded under another person's name. Following the error, that suspect hired "services" from a crime family, and a campaign of threats against the victim began, including throwing grenades at his home and at his family members' homes.
