Is It Really The Truth?
Closure Within Hours: The Final, Agonizing Wait for Two Hostage Bodies is About to End
Two deceased hostage bodies expected to return from Gaza within hours. Israeli officials finalize transfer amid ceasefire tensions and Hamas violations.

Israeli authorities are finalizing preparations for the imminent return of the bodies of two deceased hostages from the Gaza Strip, an Israeli official confirmed on Thursday. The transfer, which involves the remains of two individuals held by the Hamas terror group, is expected to take place "within hours," a development that offers a measure of closure to two more families while underscoring the severe, persistent challenges facing the US-brokered ceasefire agreement.
The expected handover will follow a difficult period marked by accusations from the Israeli side that Hamas is deliberately violating the terms of the deal by delaying the return of the remains and engaging in manipulation.
Awaiting Formal Identification
As is protocol, the identities of the deceased will not be officially released until the remains have been transferred to the Israeli side and a formal forensic identification process is completed at the National Center for Forensic Medicine.
The transfer is facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), acting as a neutral intermediary. Upon crossing into Israeli-controlled territory, the bodies will be received in a solemn military ceremony before being moved to the forensic institute.
The families of the deceased have been updated on the expected transfer and are awaiting the final confirmation, a moment of profound and agonizing finality.
Tensions Over Violations
The return of the bodies is taking place against a backdrop of increasing tension regarding Hamas's compliance with the deal's obligations. The agreement explicitly requires Hamas to return the remains of all deceased hostages abducted during the October 7, 2023, attack, believed to number around a dozen individuals still unreturned.
Just this week, Israeli officials accused Hamas of a "clear violation" after the group returned partial remains of a hostage whose body had already been recovered by the IDF months ago. Furthermore, the IDF released drone footage purportedly showing Hamas operatives staging a false discovery of remains in front of Red Cross representatives, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office called an "abhorrent manipulation" designed to pressure and deceive.
Hamas maintains that the extensive destruction in Gaza is the reason for the slow pace, with many remains being difficult to locate under the rubble. However, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum has been insistent, stating publicly that the Israeli government must "act decisively" and refuse to advance to the next phase of the agreement until every deceased hostage is returned.
The return of the two bodies offers a painful step toward the ultimate goal of bringing all captives, living and deceased, home to Israel.
