In a high-profile escalation, Israeli fighter jets struck Yemen’s Sanaa International Airport early Wednesday morning, marking the latest response to ongoing Houthi rocket fire targeting Israel.

According to an IDF spokesperson, the strike targeted aerial assets belonging to the Iranian-backed Houthi regime. “The aircraft destroyed in the attack were being used to transfer operatives involved in terror missions against Israel,” the statement read.

The attack comes just days after Israeli forces struck the Yemeni ports of Hodeidah and Al-Salif, both of which were also used by the Houthis for military purposes. "This is another example of how the Houthi terror organization cynically exploits civilian infrastructure for terrorism," the IDF added.

Minutes after the strike, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed responsibility and revealed the name of the operation: “Golden Jewel.”

“The Israeli Air Force struck Houthi terror targets at Sanaa Airport and destroyed the last operational aircraft in their arsenal,” Katz announced.

He issued a clear warning: “This is a direct continuation of our new policy—those who fire at Israel will pay a heavy price. Houthi ports will continue to be hit hard, and Sanaa Airport will be reduced to rubble again and again, as will other strategic infrastructure used by the Houthi terror regime and its backers.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed the sentiment, stating:

“We operate by a simple principle: If you strike us, we will strike you. And if you don’t get the message by force—you will get it with even greater force.”

Netanyahu emphasized that the Houthis are not the core threat, but a proxy:

“The Houthis are merely a symptom. The real power behind them is Iran—and Iran is responsible for the aggression emanating from Yemen.”
