Our beloved bearded wizard George R.R. Martin is out here dropping bombs about even more "Game of Thrones" spin-offs. We're talking five to six fresh series bubbling in HBO's cauldron, and get this: some are actual sequels set after the original show's controversial finale, as reported by Channel 13.
George himself dished this at a lit literary bash in Iceland, as scooped by the fan bible Los Siete Reinos (that's "The Seven Kingdoms" for us non-Spanish speakers), your go-to for all things Westeros.
"Beyond 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' and 'House of the Dragon,' we've got a slew of spin-off dreams in the works," quipped the 77-year-old mastermind. "Mostly prequels, sure, but hey, five or six shows total. I'm not solo-queening this; I've got a squad of creatives on board. And yes, darlings, sequels are in the mix too."
This juicy reveal landed just a day after HBO flexed their grand "Game of Thrones" universe roadmap, think Marvel-level expansion, with more seasons of "House of the Dragon" (season three dropping late summer 2026, mark your calendars) and "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" (premiering January 18 stateside).
Both are time-travel vibes: "House" rewinds 200 years pre-Thrones drama, while "Knight" clocks in at about a century before.!
But seriously, George, what about the BOOKS?! We're dying over here. At NYC Comic-Con in October 2025, he owned up: "Deadlines? Yeah, I'm not great with those. It sucks breaking promises, but hey, I'm still grinding." And back in April, he straight-up called "The Winds of Winter" his "life's curse" - 13 years late and counting. These new gigs are mostly remixing his old tales, not fresh ink, he swears.
Of course, we've been burned before, remember the Jon Snow sequel beyond the Wall? Or "The Long Night" pilot with stars like Naomi Watts and Miranda Richardson that got iced after a fortune in filming? Not every dragon egg hatches, folks. So, temper that hype; not all these will soar to our screens.
