French actor Pierre Deny, known internationally for his role in Netflix’s Emily in Paris, has died at 69 after a sudden battle with ALS.
His daughters confirmed his death in a statement, saying he died Monday following “a sudden and severe case” of the disease.
Deny appeared in the third and fourth seasons of Emily in Paris as Louis de Léon, the powerful CEO of the fictional fashion giant JVMA. The role brought him wider international attention after a long career in French television.
Before joining the Netflix hit, Deny was a familiar face in France, including through his work on the popular soap opera Demain nous appartient, where he appeared in more than 500 episodes.
News of his death came as Emily in Paris star Lily Collins announced that filming had begun on the show’s sixth and final season.
“We’re back, for one last time,” Collins wrote on Instagram, saying the final season would take the series to Greece as well as France.
The final season will now move forward in the shadow of Deny’s death, after the actor became a memorable presence in the show’s fashion-world storyline.
