For decades, rumors have swirled that Stevie Wonder, one of the most influential musicians of our time, isn’t really blind—that he’s just been pretending. But at a recent performance in Wales, the 75-year-old artist addressed the bizarre conspiracy theory directly and, with warmth and grace, finally put it to rest.
“I have to tell you something,” Wonder told the audience during a moment of honesty from the stage. “There have been rumors that I can see and all that,” he said, prompting laughter from the crowd. “But seriously, you know the truth.”
Wonder then shared the reality: “The truth is that I lost my sight shortly after I was born. It was a blessing, it allowed me to see the world with a vision of truth. To see people for their spirit, not for how they look. Not for the color of their skin, but for the color of their soul.”
