Was IRGC Chief Ahmad Vahidi Just Assassinated?

Social media and opposition channels are spreading unverified claims that senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Ahmad Vahidi has been assassinated or eliminated in a targeted strike.

Vahidi, a brigadier general, was appointed IRGC chief in early March 2026 following the death of his predecessor in U.S.-Israeli strikes at the outset of the conflict. He is a hardline figure with a controversial history, including past leadership roles in the Quds Force and accusations related to the 1994 AMIA bombing in Argentina.

The latest buzz appears to stem from name confusion with separate unconfirmed reports from late May 31, 2026, about a targeted strike in the Andisheh suburb of Tehran. Those claims involve an IRGC-linked individual named Vahid Hakan (or similar spelling), reportedly involved in satellite-related contracts. Footage of a damaged building has circulated online, but Iranian sources have not officially confirmed any assassination, with some dismissing it as a possible gas explosion or unrelated incident.

Similar unverified opposition claims about Vahidi's death surfaced shortly after his March appointment but were never substantiated, and he has remained publicly active since.

These reports remain purely rumors with no credible confirmation from Iranian authorities, Israeli or U.S. officials. As of now, Vahidi continues to be listed as the active Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC in multiple recent reports.

All reports of high-level Iranian assassinations should be treated with caution amid the ongoing tensions.
