The European Union has reached a unanimous agreement to impose fresh sanctions on specific Israeli citizens and organizations, triggering a furious response from Jerusalem.

European Union foreign ministers reached a significant political consensus in Brussels on Monday to implement new sanctions against what they described as "violent settlers" in Judea and Samaria. The package was approved unanimously after Hungary withdrew its long standing opposition following a change of government in Budapest. The sanctions will target individuals and organizations accused of acts of violence against Palestinians, signaling a sharp deterioration in the diplomatic relationship between Israel and the European bloc.

Among those targeted are prominent leaders of the settlement movement, including Daniela Weiss, Meir Deutsch, and Avichai Suissa. The EU also designated four organizations for sanctions: Amana, Hashomer Yosh, Regavim, and Nachala. EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas welcomed the decision, stating on social media that it was time to move from "stagnation to implementation" and that radicalism and violence must have tangible consequences.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar reacted with intense condemnation, rejecting the decision as an arbitrary and political move lacking any factual basis. Saar specifically took aim at the EU for announcing sanctions against Hamas leaders in the same package as Israeli citizens. "The parallel the EU chose to make between Israeli civilians and Hamas terrorists is a morally distorted comparison," Saar stated, adding that no external factor would deprive the Jewish people of their right to settle in their homeland.

The response from within the Israeli cabinet went beyond verbal protests. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who also serves as a minister within the Defense Ministry, laid a plan on the Prime Minister's desk to move strategic territories from Areas A and B into Area C, effectively increasing Israeli administrative control. Smotrich characterized the EU action as "peak hypocrisy" and warned that any attempt to weaken Israel's hold on the land would be met with the exact opposite result.

Local leaders in the region also joined the verbal assault on Brussels. Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, accused the EU of providing a "tailwind for terrorism" and engaging in "dehumanization" of half a million law abiding residents. Dagan pointed out the double standard of the EU, noting that no sanctions have been placed on Palestinian organizations that openly incite violence against Jews, including the Fatah movement.

While Israel managed to block even harsher measures, such as the total cancellation of the Association Agreement that regulates trade with Europe, the new sanctions represent a significant victory for the pro Palestinian lobby in the EU. Jerusalem continues to rely on influential allies like Germany and Italy to prevent a total diplomatic break, but the current atmosphere suggests that European patience with the situation in Judea and Samaria has reached a breaking point.
