Hamas Security Official Mysteriously Killed in Central Gaza
Gazan reports claim that Israeli special forces infiltrated the camp and shot a senior Hamas officer.

A senior Hamas internal security officer, Ahmed Zamzam (also spelled Ahmad Zamzam or Zmzum), was killed on Sunday in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, according to statements from the group's Interior Ministry and local reports.Hamas described the incident as an assassination by "armed gunmen," stating that Zamzam, a lieutenant colonel-equivalent in the internal security service and responsible for security in the central camps, was shot at close range.
The ministry added that security forces arrested one suspect and are investigating the event.
Palestinian journalists and some Israeli media outlets speculated that the killing may have been carried out by an Israeli special forces unit operating in the area, marking a rare ground operation deep in central Gaza. However, Israeli security sources denied any involvement, emphasizing no official confirmation from the IDF or Shin Bet.
The incident follows the confirmed elimination of Ra'ad Saad, a top Hamas military commander and one of the architects of the October 7, 2023, attacks, in an Israeli airstrike on his vehicle in Gaza City on Saturday. The IDF stated that Saad was targeted in response to ceasefire violations, including an explosive device that wounded Israeli soldiers. Hamas condemned the strike as a breach of the fragile truce in place since October. They also confirmed that he was eliminated.
No casualties beyond Zamzam were reported in Sunday's incident, and details remain unverified amid ongoing tensions. The Gaza conflict has seen repeated accusations of truce breaches from both sides, with Israeli operations continuing to target Hamas infrastructure and personnel.
This is a developing story. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available from official sources.
