Yossian Curses Former Supreme Court Judge Aharon Barak: "He should not be buried; His body should be burned"

Political commentator Eliyahu Yossian, identified with the right-wing camp, harshly cursed former Supreme Court President Aaron Barak, the judge who spearheaded the judicial revolution through his court rulings.

Aharon Barak background

Eliyahu Yossian, a political commentator associated with the right-wing camp, harshly cursed former Supreme Court President Aharon Barak, the founder of judicial review that led to tensions between the judiciary and the legislature.

In a post he published, Yossian cursed Aharon Barak, wishing that he would not have a grave in Israel and that “his body be burned.”

“Good morning to the Jewish nation,” Yossian wrote.

“He must not have a grave in the State of Israel. It is a desecration of the Jewish people, the Land of Israel, and the State of Israel. It is a desecration of a Jewish state. His body should be burned in this world and his soul in the next,” the harsh post read.

Responses from the political system to the harsh remarks were quick.

MK Gilad Kariv wrote in response: “These are the rotten fruits of years of incitement against the judicial system, against gatekeepers, and against judges.

A tweet that is a disgrace and a desecration of God’s name, and an incitement to violence.

The hands typing are those of a vile and dangerous person, but the voice is that of Netanyahu, Levin, Rothman, and Ben-Gvir.”

MK Naor Shiri (Yesh Atid) on Eliyahu Yossian: “Presenter of Tornado Inventor. Panelist on the toxic Channel 14. Soon, surely, he’ll also run for the Likud. This is the result of 18 years of a poisonous, corrupt, and filthy regime. No one will condemn it, but sending Aaron Barak to defend the State of Israel at The Hague, that’s fine, he’s good for that.”

Haredi journalist Aryeh Erlich also responded to the post, writing: “A despicable and sickening statement by Eliyahu Yossian. Even if we strongly oppose his path and there is a vast gulf between him and our worldview, Aharon Barak is a Jewish soul, a spark of the Divine, a Jew in every respect. He is entitled to a Jewish burial and the recitation of Kaddish. This is the Jewish perspective. But this is what happens when ideological opposition is not rooted in the Torah’s worldview.”

Yossian deleted the post shortly afterward.

Yossian Faces Harsh backlash:

Tornado announced that it is pulling the advertisement featuring Eliyahu Yossian following a shocking post he published on the X network against former Supreme Court President Aharon Barak, as reported by Israel Hayom.

In an official statement, Tornado clarified: “Tornado and its leadership are shocked by Eliyahu Yossian’s words. Upon reading his remarks, Tornado demanded that Yossian immediately remove his statement. In light of his statement, which crosses the boundaries of legitimate discourse, Tornado will not use any advertising that includes Mr. Yossian’s participation ... [He] was never a presenter for Tornado but appeared alongside other figures in a single company advertisement.”

Tornado concluded its statement by emphasizing that it is “an all-Israeli company that strives for unity and condemns any statement of hatred and division. We will continue to serve all Israelis with dedication and hope for days of unity and shared destiny.”
