Unbreakable Heroes: Shock the Nation with Their Bold Decision to Rejoin the Army
"We Want to Serve," 5 Freed Hostages Shocking Request to Return to the IDF
They Survived Hamas Captivity—Now These 5 IDF Soldiers Are Ready to Return to Duty. In a remarkable display of resilience, five female soldiers who were recently freed from Hamas captivity have requested to resume their service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Freed IDF Lookouts Request to Resume Their Service Despite Captivity
Less than two weeks after their release, these women—Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Agam Berger—surprised even their families by expressing a collective desire to return to duty. This comes despite the harrowing experience they endured during their captivity, which began on October 7, 2023.
Channel 12 News reported that the five soldiers have already reached out to the IDF to resume their military service. However, their families noted that the military advised them it was too soon for such a decision, emphasizing that the soldiers should focus on recovery in the wake of their trauma.
The decision to return is deeply personal for the women. Despite the trauma they experienced, it remains crucial for them to rejoin the military. However, it’s worth noting that they do not wish to resume their previous roles as lookouts. This decision follows the example of Ori Megidish, who served alongside the five women at the Nahal Oz outpost. Ori was rescued from captivity on October 30, 2023, and she returned to serve in the IDF after just four months. However, she was reassigned to the Intelligence Division rather than her original role as a lookout.
The IDF acknowledged Ori’s decision to return to service, explaining that it stemmed from her “personal desire and a sense of mission to serve the country.” This sentiment resonates with the five soldiers, who, despite the emotional and physical toll of their captivity, feel compelled to contribute to the defense of their country.
While the IDF continues to prioritize their recovery, the decision of these women to return to their roles within the military highlights not only their strength and resilience but also their deep commitment to Israel’s security. Their request symbolizes the enduring spirit of duty that many soldiers feel, even after facing unimaginable adversity.
