Justice Minister Yariv Levin is approached the Government Secretary about the Attorney General today (Wednesday), effectively launching her removal. The document calls for a vote of no confidence in the Attorney General and convening a search committee that will discuss her removal - which is essentially the first step in her removal.
Levin provided a long list of reasons for this decision:
- Contamination of Legal Counsel with Political Considerations
- Claimed that the Legal Counsel did not act as a professional body but as a tool to thwart government policy
- Presented "legal prevention" even when there was no legal justification
- Allegedly worked to block government and private legislation and prevent appointments in the civil service
- Breach of Trust in Representing the State
- Allegedly refused to represent the government in court in many cases, especially regarding legislation on the Prime Minister's incapacity and investigation of October 7th events
- When she did represent, she allegedly did so in a way that harmed the government's position
- Sometimes prevented private representation for the government in legally permissible cases
- Abuse of Prosecution Authority
- Accused of selective and political enforcement policy
- Allegedly lenient with opponents of the judicial reform and government protests
- Ignored serious incitement and calls for army disobedience
- Claimed to apply prosecution with excessive severity against government supporters
- Betrayal of Public Interest and Rule of Law
- Allegedly refrained from intervening in illegal political strikes
- Ignored Knesset and ministerial requests
- Delayed important legislation against organized crime, especially in the Arab sector
- Damage to Government's Security Policy
- Allegedly worked to prevent establishing an inquiry committee compatible with the "complementarity" principle at the Hague Court
- Action potentially harming legal defense of state senior officials and IDF fighters
