A High-Risk Route
Nahal Dargot is widely considered one of the most grueling hiking trails in the Judean Desert. The route features steep waterfalls, deep water basins, and technical sections that require physical stamina and experience. During the winter season, when the canyon fills with rainwater, the difficulty level increases exponentially, often turning stagnant pools into hazardous obstacles.
The Megilot Dead Sea Rescue Unit, which is comprised of highly trained volunteers, specializes in these exact scenarios. In previous years, the unit has conducted numerous evacuations in this canyon, including complex aerial extractions via IAF helicopters.
Secondary Incident in Nahal Prat
As the drama in Nahal Dargot unfolds, a second emergency has been reported in Nahal Prat. A 17-year-old boy suffered limb injuries after a fall in the riverbed. A separate team of volunteers has been dispatched to provide medical aid and extract the teenager.

The Israel Police issued a reminder to all hikers to check weather forecasts before departing, especially given the ongoing flood risks in desert riverbeds.
