Eisenkot to get mandate, Likud to refuse

Political analyst Amit Segal says polls showing neither bloc can form a government mean President Herzog will turn to Eisenkot first, who will offer the Likud a unity government, and be turned down

Amit Segal

Political analyst Amit Segal said Tuesday evening that the latest polls, which show neither bloc able to form a government and suggest Netanyahu will not be the next prime minister, point to a clear sequence of events.

Segal said that "with numbers like these, Eisenkot will receive the mandate from President Yitzchak Herzog to form the government, and he will turn straight to the Likud and offer them a broad unity government. But the odds are the Likud will refuse."

Though the Likud remains the largest party, Eisenkot is likely to receive more recommendations from the Knesset, meaning President Herzog will give him the first chance to form a government.
