Eisenkot to Trump: Israel voted for change

Yesh Atid chairman Gadi Eisenkot sends message to US and world partners following midterm results, pledging Israel will remain strategic ally under new government he expects to form

Eisenkot, right; Trump, left

Yesh Atid chairman Gadi Eisenkot has sent a message to Israel's partners in the United States and around the world following the results of the US midterm elections and concerns over weakening support for Israel.

Eisenkot, who is expected to receive the mandate to form the government, congratulated the public on its decision and said he intends to work immediately to establish a new government, what he described as a national emergency government that will represent all Israeli citizens.

"The citizens of Israel have voted for change and for replacing the current government. Together with my partners, we will build a stronger Israel: a Jewish and democratic Israel, liberal and egalitarian, confident in its future," he declared.

According to Eisenkot, Israel will continue to be a central and reliable strategic partner of the United States in the Middle East. "We will strengthen the partnership that benefits both nations, in all areas of life," he said.

Eisenkot concluded: "I look forward to working in close and productive cooperation with President Trump and his administration. We deeply appreciate their friendship and deep commitment to Israel. Together we can advance our shared security interests, strengthen regional stability, and open new doors to prosperity for the Middle East. This is the Israel I believe in, and this is the future we intend to build."
