A senior Iranian official confirmed Monday that international mediators have proposed a 10-day cessation of military strikes between Tehran and Washington, aimed at creating diplomatic space to revive the collapsed interim agreement between the two powers. According to the official, who spoke to Reuters, the proposal seeks to "find ways to return to the deal between Iran and the U.S." — but as of now, American officials have rejected the pause.
The disclosure came as the United States launched its ninth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian military infrastructure, marking an unprecedented sustained campaign that has targeted nearly 170 sites across the Islamic Republic in just over a week. U.S. Central Command announced the latest wave of attacks shortly after President Donald Trump presented the World Cup trophy in a ceremony, declaring: "Tonight, we once again hit Iran very hard."
The strikes targeted command centers, air defense installations, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks, according to CENTCOM. The military command stated the operations were designed to "further degrade Iran's ability to attack vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz," the critical waterway through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies pass.
