The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the deaths as an apparent homicide, with multiple sources confirming the couple suffered multiple stab wounds.

Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department were called to the couple's residence on the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30-4:00 p.m. local time for a medical aid request. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman. The LAPD's elite Robbery-Homicide Division quickly took over the case, describing it as an "apparent homicide."

Reports from outlets including KTLA, People magazine, TMZ, ABC News, the Los Angeles Times, Variety, and Deadline indicate that the couple's adult daughter discovered the bodies and was present when authorities arrived.

Multiple law enforcement and family sources have identified their son, Nick Reiner, one of the couple's three children (along with Jake and Romy) as the primary suspect. Nick allegedly fled the scene before police arrived and remains at large. Details on a possible motive are unconfirmed, though some reports reference Nick's past struggles with drug addiction. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.

A family spokesperson released a statement: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."

Rob Reiner, son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, rose to fame as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the iconic sitcom All in the Family. He later directed beloved classics such as This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally..., Misery, and A Few Good Men.
