As the U.S. remains evenly split between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, the Free Press decided to ask five major AI chatbots—ChatGPT, Grok, Llama by Meta, Claude, and DeepSeek—which candidate had the “right” approach on pressing issues like healthcare, abortion, and criminal justice. The answer? Harris, almost every time.

What does this mean? Generation Z, known for being heavy AI users, often rely on chatbots for daily tasks, from planning meals to finding jobs. Their reliance on these platforms could easily extend to voting choices, making chatbot recommendations more influential than ever.

On Wednesday, The Free Press posed 16 policy questions to these AI systems, covering the economy, inflation, gun control, and climate change. Four of the five—ChatGPT, Grok, Llama, and DeepSeek—agreed with Harris’s positions across the board.

When OpenAI’s ChatGPT was asked which candidate’s platform it preferred, it responded with a summary that praised Harris’s “comprehensive understanding,” focus on equal rights, and evidence-based policies as offering “a more inclusive and sustainable path forward.”

Although OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman has previously donated to Democratic candidates, including nearly $6,000 to Harris in 2019, he hasn’t endorsed a candidate for 2024. Nevertheless, his company’s flagship product leans decisively toward Harris’s platform.
