Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan received strong support from Republican lawmakers in Washington this week as he presented his “Connection Plan” for rebuilding and expanding Jewish communities in northern Samaria.

The event was held at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington and attended by around 20 U.S. senators and members of Congress. The gathering was hosted by Senator James Lankford and Representatives Marlin Stutzman, Josh Brecheen and Robert Aderholt, according to reports in Israel National News and Srugim.

Dagan presented a new map for northern Samaria, including plans to establish 18 communities in the area. The proposal includes renewed Jewish settlement in the four communities evacuated during the 2005 Disengagement, Homesh, Sa-Nur, Ganim and Kadim, along with 14 additional communities across the region.

Speaking at the event, Dagan described the plan as a direct correction of the Disengagement. He said Israel made a “grave mistake” 21 years ago by evacuating Jewish communities from Gaza and northern Samaria, arguing that the Gaza withdrawal ultimately led not to peace but to the October 7 massacre.

Dagan, who was expelled from Sa-Nur during the Disengagement, told lawmakers that he has returned to the site and now lives there with his family in a caravan. He said that although the structure is simple, he feels as if he is living in a palace because he has returned home.

He also said the plan includes a new community on Mount Ebal, near the site traditionally identified with Joshua’s altar. Dagan told participants that during a previous visit to the area, he had promised they would one day drink coffee together in a new community there.

Republican lawmakers at the event praised the initiative. Stutzman said he was excited to see the communities developing, saying new families, jobs, businesses and tourism opportunities would follow. Lankford said it was a privilege to stand with the residents of Judea and Samaria and to hear about the area’s growth and future. Brecheen also expressed support, calling the expansion of the communities “amazing.”

Tony Perkins, a senior Republican conservative figure, also spoke in support of Dagan. He said the issue was deeply personal for Dagan because his own home had been taken from him during the Disengagement. Perkins said many Americans do not realize that the 2005 withdrawal also included communities in northern Samaria, not only Gaza.

The event highlighted growing support among Trump-aligned Republicans for Israeli sovereignty and renewed settlement in Judea and Samaria. For Dagan, the message was clear: rebuilding northern Samaria is not only a local Israeli issue, but part of a wider strategic and ideological alliance with Israel’s strongest supporters in Washington.
