President Isaac Herzog has called on Israel's political parties to come to this week's meetings with him ready with "creative solutions to prevent another election."
Herzog spoke to party representatives ahead of the talks. He acknowledged that candidates stake out uncompromising positions while campaigning. That phase, he stressed, is finished. The vote has taken place, and its outcome is now an established fact.
"Now is the time to tell all the leaders: Stop climbing trees and face this reality," Herzog said.
The President said the meetings would aim to help party leaders step back from their stated positions and accept the outcome carefully and with restraint.
