At least seven people were shot and three killed Saturday night in an active shooter incident at the Southport Yacht Basin in coastal North Carolina.

The shooting began around 9:30 p.m. when a gunman reportedly opened fire from a boat toward the American Fish Company restaurant, a popular waterfront spot. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as diners and staff scrambled for cover while emergency sirens converged on the marina.

Police confirmed the suspect remains at large, and a massive search operation is underway. Local authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid the yacht basin area, and immediately report any suspicious activity.

Emergency responders are treating the wounded, though the full extent of injuries remains unclear. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

The incident has shaken the small seaside community, where late-summer evenings at the marina are usually quiet and bustling with visitors. “We are asking for patience as we secure the area and gather facts,” police said in a late-night briefing.
