Deni Avdija delivered a standout performance in his NBA playoff debut, recording a 30-point double-double as the Portland Trail Blazers fell 111-98 to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of their first-round series.

The Israeli forward added 10 rebounds and five assists, emerging as Portland’s most effective player on the floor despite the loss. Avdija shot efficiently and handled heavy defensive pressure, but the Trail Blazers struggled to keep pace with San Antonio over the course of the game.

The Spurs took control with a balanced offensive effort, while Portland lacked consistent secondary scoring to support Avdija’s output. Analysts pointed to that gap as a key factor in the result, noting that the Blazers will need broader offensive contributions to compete in the series.

Avdija said after the game that while the performance was personally meaningful, the focus remains on winning.

“It’s a special moment to be on this stage,” he said. “But the goal is to win and do everything for the team.”

He acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, citing inconsistent shooting and defensive lapses, but added that the game remained within reach for long stretches.

Game 2 is set for later this week, with Portland looking to level the series after San Antonio took a 1-0 lead.
