In a single year, journalist Shlomi Eldar lived through upheavals most people never face in a lifetime. In a wrenching interview on Kan 11's "Meeting with Roni Kuban," Eldar recounts the hardest period of his life, when, even as he was working on the scoop of his career about a warning call from the UAE president to Binyamin Netanyahu, his personal world was collapsing entirely.
Shortly after a 26-year love story came to an abrupt end and he sank into deep depression, Eldar was forced to confront devastating medical news as well.
"She's already telling me I have cancer"
It all began in May or June, at the height of his personal crisis. "I discover small drops of blood in my urine," Eldar recalls. He rushed to a doctor and arrived at Soroka Medical Center, where Dr. Orit Raz examined him. "She's already telling me I have cancer. She's experienced enough to know, bladder cancer."
The doctor suggested he have surgery as soon as possible and posed the question: "When can you do it?" Eldar's answer was immediate: "Tomorrow morning," and by chance but with providence, the surgery was scheduled for the next day.
