A couple traveling to Las Vegas for a private wedding ceremony received an unexpected surprise when flight attendants discovered their plans and organized an impromptu mid-air ceremony during the flight.
Sarah Arroyo Montalvo and her partner were aboard a Southwest Airlines flight on August 13 when crew members learned of their wedding plans. The staff decided to arrange an on-the-spot ceremony in front of all 178 passengers on board, at an altitude of approximately 35,000 feet.
A fortunate coincidence made the event possible: the plane's captain held official certification to perform marriage ceremonies and agreed to officiate.
The wedding attire was improvised from available materials. Flight attendants fashioned a veil and dress for the bride using toilet paper, while the bouquet was assembled from the airline's coffee stirrers.
"35,000 feet in the air, 178 witnesses, and a captain who is also ordained to perform marriages. Fate couldn't have aligned better," the bride wrote after the event. "This was our first time with Southwest Airlines, and you did not disappoint. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a flight we will never forget."
