Tourist Burns Down $100,000 Villa Trying to Scare Off Spider

A 45-year-old tourist from Nepal turned a simple attempt to get rid of a spider into an expensive disaster, after he accidentally set fire to a luxury villa where he was staying on the Indonesian island of Bali.

The incident took place on October 5, when the tourist, Gaurap Rana, spotted a spider in the bathroom and decided to frighten it away using fire. He lit a piece of paper and left the room, but a strong gust of wind blew the burning paper onto the building's roof, which was made of dry, flammable grass.

Within minutes, flames spread and destroyed the villa and everything inside it. Seven fire crews were called to the scene and battled the blaze for about two hours. The tourist managed to escape unharmed, and no other injuries were reported.
